Grotto Canyon

Short Hike
Distance: 3km (total)
Elevation Gain: 128m
Time: 2-3 hours
Difficulty: Easy

Access:
Take Hwy 1 to Hwy 1X going towards Canmore. Follow road to a T intersection and take a left. Follow road and run right when you see a sign for Grotto Pond.

Experience:
We decided to do this hike first because I had heard that the parking lot fills up fast which it did. The first part of the hike is getting to the Canyon which is following a power line until there is a difficult sign to read then you take a right. The path is a bit washed out so at times it is just easier to be on the creek bed which you have to get into anyways. The hike is very easy, at least it was for a bunch of young adults, but we also saw a lot of families with little children there too.

The towering walls of the Canyon were pretty cool, and there is many places where people can go rock climbing. When you reach the end Canyon there will be the very wet wall dripping water, a better view of the stream, and the walls will reach their tallest.

You can go farther into a back country but there isn't anything there to see. It was fun and I was not disappointed with the experience.  Its always fun to have fun people to be with as well.

Yamnuska

Day Hike
Distance: 5.5km one way
Elevation Gain: 900m
Time: 4-5 hours
Difficulty: Medium to Hard

Access:
Hwy 1 going west, take hwy 1X turn off to connect to hwy 1A (Bow Valley Trail), this is a right turn at the T intersection. Follow road for a little while and you will take the first left into the parking lot.

Experience:
Mom and I wanted to do a different hike today but when we got there it was closed so we decided to hike Yamnuska. I have hiked this one before when I was little but I have always hated it. Going up there is a halfway view point which is awesome, but after that viewpoint the hiking got harder. My mom has a hurt knee but she kept on going up the steep paths. We got really close to the base of the steep cliffs but Mom had to stop and I went up by myself. I got up there and didnt know where to go so I took some pictures and went back down to eat food with Mom. The hike down was slow because Mom was really hurting but she survived and we got down the mountain just fine.

There was a ton of birds singing in the morning, and it was very peaceful especially for it being a more popular hike. The flowers are starting to come out and when I was right beside the cliff it smelt like pine trees! It was great, even though I almost broke my mother's body.

I wonder if something is living in there.

The trees right here were the only ones like this
